The big kick off is just a few weeks away!

Brazil World Cup 2014In just over three weeks time, the wait is finally over. After 64 years of waiting, football returns to its spiritual home in Brazil for the biggest samba party ever in the heat of South America and we want you to be a part of it.

With the Premier League season now over and the great British summer nearly upon us, it’s World Cup year and here at Sky Cards, we will be getting into the spirit of cheering on England, as the young lions go out to once again, try to bring the trophy back to the true home of football after decades of hurt and disappointment.

Roy Hodgson has picked an incredibly brave and young squad for the most part, opting to look to the future, giving opportunities to some of the the countries brightest stars to show the watching world what they are capable of. Can they spring a surprise or is this simply the dawn of a new era to come in later years?

Where will you be watching it unfold?

As usual, 32 teams will test their skill, stamina and willpower against each other in a bid to lift the coveted trophy in the heat of Brazil over four glorious weeks of the beautiful game. On Friday, 13th June, 2014 current reigning champions Spain will commence the defence of their title in the Arena Fonte Nova, Salvador versus Holland, whilst England will begin their tournament on Saturday, 14th June, 2014 in the Arena Amazonia, Manaus versus Italy.

Hosts Brazil open the tournament with their first match being played against Croatia in the Arena de Sao Paulo on Thursday 12 June.

Both the BBC and ITV will share the coverage of the tournament like years gone by and as usual, in the war of the ratings, have tried to assemble the best punditry teams available to cast their eyes and opinions over each of the games to get the best viewing figures possible.

BBC have gone with a mixture of familiar faces with a few surprise inclusions. Regular host Gary Lineker will be joined by Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry, Phil Neville and the retiring Alan Hansen. However to date, there’s no mention of Mark Lawrenson being included in the team which some may be pleased and delighted to learn; depending on your preference!

ITV will be presenting coverage from their plush studio based in Rio de Janeiro. The regularly flustered (and at times incomprehensible) presenter Adrian Chiles will be supported by Gordon Strachan, Ian Wright, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Gus Poyet, Lee Dixon and injured England winger Andros Townsend.

So all in all, both channels have put together decent teams showcasing a mixture of experience and youth to give their insight into the games as the come thick and fast.
